Shirodhara Therapy (शिरोधारा)
Classical rhythmic pouring of warm, medicated botanical oils over the forehead (Ajna Chakra) to soothe the nervous system, lower cortisol, and restore restorative sleep.
What is Classical Shirodhara?
Derived from the Sanskrit words 'Shiro' (Head) and 'Dhara' (Continuous Flow), Shirodhara is one of Ayurveda's most revered Panchakarma therapies. A continuous stream of customized warm medicated oils, herbal decoctions, or medicated milk is rhythmically poured across the forehead from a specialized copper or brass vessel.
The continuous flow creates a gentle vibrational pulse over the Ajna Chakra and hypothalamus, triggering the parasympathetic nervous system, inducing alpha brainwaves, and drastically reducing stress hormone (cortisol) levels.
The 3-Phase Clinical Protocol
1. Pūrvakarma (Pre-Therapy Preparation)
Head and shoulder Marma massage (Shiroabhyanga) using warm herbal oil to relax cranial musculature and open energetic channels.
2. Pradhānakarma (Main Shirodhara Flow)
45 to 60 minutes of uninterrupted, temperature-regulated rhythmic herbal oil streaming across forehead Marma points.
3. Paścātkarma (Post-Therapy Rest & Herbal Tea)
Warm towel wipe down, relaxation in a serene quiet suite, and administration of calming Brahmi herbal infusion.
