Patra Pinda Sweda (Potli / Elakizhi)
Therapeutic massage using warm linen boluses packed with fresh wild medicinal leaves (Nirgundi, Eranda, Arka), rock salt, and hot herbal oils to dissolve chronic inflammatory pain and frozen joints.
What is Patra Pinda Sweda (Potli / Kizhi)?
Patra Pinda Sweda (also known as Elakizhi or Potli Massage) is one of the most effective anti-inflammatory fomentation therapies in classical Kerala Ayurveda. Freshly gathered leaves of medicinal plants (such as Nirgundi, Eranda, Arka, Shobhanjana, and lemon) are chopped, fried with herbal powders and rock salt in medicated oils, and tied into sterile cotton linen pouches.
These warm poultices are rhythmically dipped into simmering herbal oils and applied with measured therapeutic pressure across painful joints, spine, and spasmed muscles, delivering rapid relief from chronic arthritis, tendonitis, and frozen shoulder.
