Kati Basti Therapy (कटि बस्ति)
Deep-tissue lumbosacral oil reservoir therapy that nourishes desiccated spinal discs, decompresses trapped sciatic nerve roots, and eradicates chronic lower back pain.
What is Kati Basti?
Kati Basti (कटि बस्ति) is a specialized classical therapy targeting the lumbosacral vertebral segment (L1 to S1). A therapeutic dam crafted from freshly ground black gram dough is sealed directly over the lower back, into which warm, medicated, anti-inflammatory herbal oils are poured and maintained at a precise temperature.
The continuous hydrostatic pressure and deep lipid absorption hydrate dehydrated intervertebral discs, ease nerve root irritation in Sciatica (Gridhrasi), and relieve deep paraspinal muscle contractures caused by prolonged sitting.
The Clinical Process
1. Lumbar Spine Alignment & Dough Dam
Precise identification of the herniated or compressed lumbar segment, followed by sealing the organic dough ring.
2. Continuous Heated Herbal Decoction Retention
Retention of heated medicinal lipid extracts for 40 to 45 minutes, ensuring continuous diffusion across the deep spinal ligaments.
3. Paraspinal Marma Massage & Patra Kizhi
Removal of the dam, followed by warm herbal poultice massage along the sciatic nerve pathway down the gluteal and hamstring muscles.
